From the Presidents Desk This year has certainly been a very busy and stimulating year for wound management. There have been a number of important events that have broadened our knowledge of best wound management practices and some of the debates in best management strategies. The events of note are: AWMA conference in March, The World Congress of Wound Healing Society's in Paris in July and our state seminar and workshop in October. The World Congress in Paris was attended by 6000 people (60 Aussies) was very different to our conferences. In the main the sessions were concurrent and there were as many as 18 strands to choose from - Quite a dilemma to choose the best ones to attend. . One great outcome were the number of World Union Initiatives that were offered for a chance to shape the future of wound management from a World perspective and more of the begins from this will be discussed in the next Congress in July 2008. Canada are the hosts for this meeting and promises to be a great event. On a state level SAWMA is hosting the Keys to Confidence and Competence seminar and a workshop titled A Framework for the Multi-disciplinary Care of Pressure Wounds presented by Jillian Swaine an Occupational Therapist from Calgary Canada. By the time you receive this newsletter these events will have been held. The numbers of registrants and Trade attending are our best ever. Selected papers from this meeting will be in the next newsletter. My thanks must go to the hard working SAWMA committee who have all played a part to ensure their success, however I must Thank on your behalf in particular, Paul Philcox and Verronica Dettore who have put in an extraordinary amount of time to ensure that the events were a success. The August meeting - a joint meeting between the ASTN (SA) and SAWMA was well attended and was an informative and enjoyable evening 2 papers from that evening are included in this newsletter. One detractor was that we started late due to technical difficulties with the computer and data projector. We hope to rectify that in the future with the proposed purchase of a computer and data projector for use at these meetings. That means they will arrive together and be able to be set up prior to our starting time. This will then mean that we start on time and finish at a reasonable hour. I recommend the November meeting to you. The focus is on early management of wounds that occur as a result of Traumatic Injury. This should be a great evening. As usual we will have Christmas drinks and a Christmas Raffle. Once again I wish to remind you all that the SAWMA meetings will be held at the venue of Enterprise House 136 Greenhill Road Unley. This venue has a 130 undercover car park on site, and feedback has been very positive therefore we have booked our meetings for 2004 at this venue again. We welcome your comments on this venue and how SAWMA can meet your wound management learning needs. The SAWMA committee thanks you for your continued support throughout 2004 and we look forward to preparing an interesting and stimulating program for you in 2005. The AGM will be held in February and again there will be elections for vacancies on the committee and I urge you all to consider nominations for these vital roles in promoting best practice in wound management. With best wishes for
Christmas and 2005 With kind regards
